New Hitch System Makes Light Work of Towing
We’ve introduced a new ‘Sidewinder’ hitch that makes towing even easier and eliminates turning headaches.
The new hitch, which is fitted to the bed of the towing pick-up vehicle, now pivots at the tourer rather than the vehicle. This ensures tighter turning circles and makes 80-degree turns effortless.
Smaller and lighter than previous systems, the Sidewinder hitch provides extra storage space in the bed of the pick-up truck and is easier and quicker to remove when not in use.
Adrian Parry-Jones, Operations Director at Fifth Wheel Company, explains: “The Sidewinder’s kingpin locking mechanism moves the pivot position 20 inches rear of the coupler’s attachment point. This enables Sidewinder to handle up to 80-degree turns and, by moving the pivot rearward, the trailer tracks more closely to the tracks of the truck – reducing the need for extra-wide turns.”
Sidewinder also offers faster steering wheel response, making backing up easier than ever before and the pivoting pin box makes hook up possible at any angle.
Now fitted on all our tourers, the Sidewinder hitch is also available to buy and can be fitted separately.
