Nissan Outlaw 3.0 V6 Review
Since October last year, we’ve been road testing the new Nissan Outlaw 3.0 V6. And, when it comes to testing, Top Gear has nothing on a Fifth Wheel test!
We’ve clocked up over 4,500 miles across the country towing not only the DreamSeeker and Celtic Rambler but also plant trailers and heavy rollers. The four-wheel drive system has certainly had its work cut out as we’ve towed our tourers through muddy fields (top tip: don’t stop!).
As well as putting the fifth wheel conversion on the pick-up bed, we’ve also added the spray liner – a non-slip protective rubber coating so the bodywork doesn’t get scraped.
So, our verdict? Well it’s coped with everything we’ve thrown at it and it’s just got better and better.
Its 228bhp 3.0-litre diesel engine offers a flat torque curve of 550Nm right from 750 to 1500 rpm, allowing the Nissan to tow our tourers with ease.
Sales Director Adrian Parry-Jones, said: “The new model is excellent thanks to its power and engine refinements. Not only is it now much smoother and quieter to drive but it also benefits from a seven-speed adaptive automatic transmission.
“The new gearbox quickly settles into the way you drive and it now holds the gear so you’re able to use the torque of the engine for towing.”
The fuel consumption has also improved. Adrian added: “We’ve just been to the Peterborough Show and the V6 model used £20 less fuel one-way compared to the Nissan Navara Aventura 2.5 diesel.”
There’s also lots of equipment including cruise control which made driving on the motorway a breeze, sat-nav, a fantastic entertainment system with a 6GB music hard drive plus a rear parking camera which made hitching even easier.
Nissan have also added ESP across the range which helps improve the ride and overall stability of the vehicle, 18in alloys and a new bumper, bonnet and grille.
